You're not alone.
Many teachers feel underprepared to teach academic writing – especially to English learners – based solely on their degree training.
Many teachers have been advised to just have students write throughout the day, across disciplines, and to use the state writing rubric as a guide.
But once you're in the classroom, you know it takes more than that to adequately prepare your students. That's where Active Learning for Writing Across Disciplines will help!
This course is focused on addressing the needs of our multilingual learners in the development of writing proficiency across content areas. To accomplish this, we will:
- explore how to break writing down into manageable, logical steps for all students;
- incorporate the Teaching & Learning Cycle into your writing instruction; and
- examine best practices and strategies for developing writing and moving students along the writing proficiency continuum.
This course is a condensed version of our 45 hour/3 credit course.
