Long Term English Learners (LTELs) make up an increasing percentage of all secondary English Learners in the United States. This third course in the LTEL pathway provides oracy (speaking/discourse) strategies designed to lift LTELs into higher levels of language proficiency and help them fully engage across the curriculum. The course is for all content area teachers who work with intermediate level language learners in Grades 4-12.
Teachers will learn strategies to support students in the final push toward proficiency by full engaging them in content.
During this 5 hour training with Beth you will:
understand the importance of oracy development for long-term English learners;
implement strategies to improve listening comprehension and support academic discussions;
plan for students' oral presentations; and
assess students' proficiency in oracy.
