During this course we discuss programs and strategies for cultivating leadership skills among refugee and immigrant parents for engaging in decision-making and advocacy at the school and district levels. This is Part 3 of 3 of the Parent Engagement Pathway.
In this course, participants will:
* increase knowledge of the importance of refugee and immigrant parent leadership in discussions around staffing and the school board budget, as well as committees on equity, bullying and more;
* gain awareness of programs being used in school districts to develop the capacity of refugee and immigrant parent leaders; and
* learn about the relationship between family engagement initiatives and community organizing, particularly for refugee and immigrant families.
Yes! Upon completion of this course, all participants will earn a certificate of participation that states the number of professional development hours completed (5 hours). Completion of all three courses in the Family Engagement Pathway earns 15 hours and qualifies you for graduate credit.
If you need graduate credit, this is also an option! For a small additional fee ($75) and the completion of a final project, you will receive one (1) graduate credit through Brandman University. Brandman University is based out of California, but specializes in online education. It is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and is a member of the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL).
